In 2014 the Adelaide Farmers' Market launched a Transport project aimed at encouraging our market goers to leave the car at home. To enable us to do this we received a grant from the Department of Public Transport and Infrastructure. The project was a great success, so much so that we continue to offer a free car parking pass to market members who offer to car pool, additional bike racks have been installed and we continue to rent out shopping trolleys to cutomers. The DPTI are keen to encourage other community groups and not-for-profits to apply for their grants and our General Manager Elaine was asked to speak about the market's grant-aided project on camera.

Could you offer a lift to the Showground farmers’ market to other market members? If so, you could get free car parking for 2016 by sharing the ride!
Around 6000 people visit the Showground Farmers’ Market every Sunday morning - with most visitors travelling by car. Not only do we want to encourage healthy eating we also want to promote safer, greener and more active travel.
Adelaide Metro bus, train and tram timetables are now available at the Information Tent at our Showground Farmers' Market. And to make it even easier for people catching public transport, we are now lending out shopping carts to market members to help you get your market purchases home safely.
Members registering their interest in the car pooling scheme who provide rides will receive a complimentary car parking pass for 2016 . The rides could be offered to family, friends or neighbours who are also members or we can assist with matching up your ride with members from your area.
Come and speak to us at the Information Stand on Sunday if you'd like to participate.
As part of the project, we will also be looking at ways to encourage more people to cycle or walk to the market. Help us promote safer, greener and more active travel to and from the markets!
